In 2012 the Classic Sports Car Club launched it`s Special Saloons race series. In so doing it revived a whole genre of modified club racing that was once common in the UK but had been missing for too long. The cars involved were those from different strains of modified racing...70`s Super Saloons ( such as the iconic `Baby Bertha` Firenza , 80`s/90`s Thundersaloons , Modsports , Special GTs and a variety of other fascinating machinery. Most of the cars are unique and some havn`t been seen racing for decades so the series is a kind of timewarp for enthusiasts.

With Motorsport in the UK given the green light to resume in July following the easing of the Covid lockdown measures the CSCC intends to kick start its season at Thruxton on the weekend of July 25th/26th.
So far the club have had to cancel 6 events due to the outbreak with the Silverstone meeting still be to re-schedueled due to a calender reshuffle at the circuit.
The Special Saloons series missed out at Cadwell and Brands Hatch but is one the series that is on the Thruxton list of races for the sunday and entries are now being taken. Things are far from back to normal however as this and other similar events across the country will be heavily restricted.
Due to the ongoing risk of Covid there is NO PUBLIC ADMITTANCE FOR THIS EVENT .
The restrictions apply throughout the entire event and the CSCC, professional as always are working with their hosts at Thruxton to ensure the safety of all those who are able and indeed permitted to attend. At the time of writing the restrictions for competitors include no family or friends and only 1 mechanic per car. With several weeks yet to go and with ongoing meetings finalised details will be made public nearer the time.
